Dear Colleague,
As you know, many of today’s lobbyists got their start as elected Members or staff on Capitol Hill. I believe that a part of restoring trust in our institutions and making sure that those working on legislation have no other loyalties begins by closing
this revolving door.
Public service should not be a stepping-stone to a lobbying career. That is why I introduced legislation to help keep lawmakers and their staffs focused on representing their constituents and serving the national interest above any personal interests.
H.R. 384, the End the Congressional Revolving Door Act prohibits former Members of Congress and senior congressional employees who are registered as lobbyists from being eligible for any federal benefits resulting from their service on Capitol Hill. Congressional
staffers and Members of Congress who leave public service, and in many cases go on to work in lucrative positions as lobbyists, should not continue to receive federal benefits.
Please join me in strengthening this good government policy. To join as a co-sponsor of H.R. 384, please contact Johnathan Sargent in my office at
