Resolution to recognize Filipino American History Month
Please join Rep. Hanabusa in supporting H.Res. 571, Recognizing Filipino American History Month and Celebrating the History and Culture of Filipino Americans and their Immense Contributions to the United States.
This is a particularly special Filipino American History Month as we will be honoring Filipino veterans who fought for the U.S. during World War II with the Congressional Gold Medal
tomorrow, October 25.
The first known presence of Filipinos in the United States date back to the 1500s. Since then, Filipino Americans have grown to become the second largest Asian ethnic group with a population of approximately 4 million people. The states with the largest
Filipino populations are as follows:
- Arizona: 65,405
- California: 1,596,476
- Florida: 151,376
- Hawaii: 377,904
- Illinois: 146,959
- Nevada: 162,936
- New Jersey: 139,842
- New York: 142,006
- Texas: 179,113
- Virginia: 108,947
- Washington: 161,396
Filipinos have fought in the U.S. military since the Civil War. In addition, Filipino Americans have contributed tremendously to our workforce, economy, culture, and heritage.
H.Res. 571 recognizes this month as Filipino American History Month and honors the many contributions Filipinos have made in the United States of America.
