Sending Office: Honorable Steve Cohen
Prohibit the President from Pardoning
Himself, His Family Members,
Members of his Administration,
and Campaign Staff
Cosponsor H.J.Res. ____
The pardon power is supposed to be a safety valve against injustice. It is not supposed to be a way for presidents to put themselves, their families, members of their administration and campaign staff above the law.
Unless we change the Constitution, however, this is how it could be used.
There are already serious questions swirling around the current President, his family and members of his administration – including possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election, which is currently being investigated by Special Counsel
To ensure that everyone is treated equally under the law, I urge you to join me in amending the Constitution to narrow the scope of the pardon power.
If adopted, this amendment would prohibit presidents from pardoning themselves, their families, members of their administrations and individuals who worked on their presidential campaigns.
If you have questions, or to cosponsor, please contact Matt Weisman at
