The Friends of Ukraine Network in coordination with the Congressional Ukraine Caucus present:

Briefing on “Priority Recommendations for U.S. Assistance” Report

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

CVC Congressional Meeting Room North

Join us for an important conversation presented by the Friends of Ukraine Network (FOUN) on their recent findings and recommendations to adjust U.S. assistance to Ukraine. FOUN is an initiative of the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation.

In 2014, Russia seized the Ukrainian territories of Crimea and Donbas, resulting in an armed conflict between Russia and its separatist proxies and Ukraine.  Unfortunately, despite the Minsk Protocol, signed three years ago to implement an immediate ceasefire,
the fighting continues and the conflict is yet to be resolved. The Russian invasion and subsequent crisis has resulted in the deaths of 10,000 soldiers and civilians and the displacement of close to 2 million Ukrainians. According to the United Nations, 3.8
million require humanitarian assistance. Additionally, the ongoing conflict has destabilized the region economically and politically, as well as undermined democratic institutions.

Against the backdrop of this situation, the Friends of Ukraine Network offers insights on how to hone the U.S.’s foreign policy response. At this briefing, representatives of the four FOUN task forces will present policy recommendations for U.S. assistance
that would demonstrate that we continue to stand with the people of Ukraine, help civil society fight corruption, allow the people of Ukraine to defend themselves and help the victims of Putin’s war.
