House Liberty Caucus statement on amendments to H.R. 3354, Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2018
September 13, 2017
The House Liberty Caucus urges support for the following amendments to
H.R. 3354, Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2018:
Norman Amendment No. 64 (Floor No. 77)
The amendment cuts funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by nearly $2 billion. Unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats at the EPA routinely attempt to circumvent Congress’s legislative authority by writing regulations that exceed what is authorized
in statute. The amendment reins in the agency and helps Congress reassert its authority as the legislative branch of government.
Grothman Amendment No. 129 (Floor No. 105)
The amendment reduces funding for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives by more than $64 million. This modest five-percent cut is a small step toward addressing our national debt, which now exceeds $20 trillion.
