Sending Office: Honorable F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr.
Portable generators are invaluable to people and businesses, especially when electricity is not readily available and supplemental power is needed. Used correctly, these machines are incredibly beneficial.
Background: Last year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) proposed rulemaking to limit carbon monoxide emissions from portable generators due to safety concerns that can arise from their misuse.
What the Amendment Does:
- Delays CPSC from going forward with its portable generator rule for one year, giving manufacturers more time to continue to work toward the shared goal of product safety and consumer awareness.
- In the meantime, consumers would retain the ability to purchase the affordable, portable generator of their choice.
What the Amendment Does Not Do:
- Does nothing to prevent companies that have already decided to re-engineer the design of their portable generators from bringing those products to the marketplace.
