Request for Cosponsor(s)

Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to cosponsor a resolution to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the late President Anwar Sadat of Egypt.  This resolution has been filed in both Chambers, simultaneously
as H.R.754 and S.266.  Next year is the centennial of President Sadat’s birth, and we are therefore excited by this opportunity to honor a great man of peace and his role in the history of the Middle East.

President Sadat’s historic visit to Israel in 1977 was the first-ever by an Arab leader and the foundation for the lasting peace between Egypt and Israel. This visit was all the more
courageous given the opposition and outrage he faced at the time. Anwar Sadat fought for peace and paid the ultimate price. In honoring President Sadat, we honor a man who truly embodied the statesmanship and fortitude necessary to bring peace to the Middle
East, virtues that are as important today as they were then.

I hope that you will join us in this effort. If you have any questions or would like to cosponsor please contact Robert Gailey with Rep. Stewart at and 5-9730 or Donna Iken with Rep. Meng at and
