Join the Congressional Task Force on Childhood Obesity for:

The Childhood Obesity Prevention Awareness Expo

Friday, October 13 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Rayburn House Office Building Foyer

Dear Colleague:

Please join us on Friday, October 13, at 11:00a in the Rayburn Foyer for the Congressional Task Force on Childhood Obesity’s Childhood Obesity Prevention Awareness Expo.

Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the last 40 years.  More than 12,550,000 of our nation’s children and adolescents are obese.  Due in part to this epidemic, if current trends continue, 1 in 3 children born in the year 2000 will develop type 2 diabetes
at some point in their lifetime.  For the first time in two centuries, the current generation of children in the U.S. may have shorter life expectancies than their parents.

All of this is preventable.  Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to create opportunities for kids to eat healthier and get more active.  Come spread the word about strategies for preventing childhood obesity and encourage communities,
organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.

Stop by to experience activity stations featuring: soccer, wheelchair basketball, lacrosse, and baseball, along with information stations presented by 20 organizations working to make our children healthier and happier.

Join us at 12p for a BOKS Group Workout! We hope to see you there.

To become a member of the Task Force, or to cosponsor H.Res. 511 – Supporting September as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, please contact Sarah Nasta in Rep. Marcia L. Fudge’s office at or 5-7032.
