Request for Cosponsor(s)
My fellow colleagues, we urge you to join us for our amendment to the FY18 Homeland Security Appropriations that would designate $10 million to restart these grants to combat violet extremism and domestic terrorist organizations.
According to the Southern Law Poverty Center, the total number of hate groups has risen 17% since 2014 to 917 organizations. This number also represents double the number of hate groups that existed in this country in 1999. This alarming trend along with
the horrific acts of violence that resulted in death in Charlottesville, Virginia demonstrate that action has to be taken to combat this rise of hate in our country.
The Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) program funded organizations that combated violent extremism and domestic radicalization. One of the few programs in the U.S. that focused exclusively on combating white supremacy and de-radicalizing neo-Nazis, we
feel it is important to ensure this program continues to receive funds. More than ever, we need organizations to assist in combating hate and teaching acceptance.
Join us in renouncing hate by funding more organizations and communities with a desire to prevent and counter racism and violence.
