Request for Cosponsor(s)

Join us as an original cosponsor of the Buy Smarter and Save Act

Dear Colleague:

Faced with a national debt approaching $20 trillion, it is critical that Congress take measures to ensure the federal government is fiscally responsible. Please join us in cosponsoring the Buy Smarter and Save Act of 2017. This legislation will save billions
of hard-earned taxpayer dollars by leveraging the federal government’s purchasing power.

To do so, we must require federal agencies to implement category management practices, as used in the business community. The Buy Smarter and Save Act improves accountability by establishing both government and agency spending goals. Category Management
will allow agencies to join together to make bulk purchases of products and services, thereby reducing costs.

The Buy Smarter and Save Act will also require the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to assist federal agencies in establishing proper methods of reporting data and analysis related to the agencies’ spending patterns. The affected agencies include all
executive departments, plus the Environmental Protection Agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Agency for International Development, General Services Administration, National Science Foundation, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of Personnel
Management, Small Business Administration, and the Social Security Administration.

We hope you will join us in cosponsoring this important legislation. To cosponsor this bill or to receive more information, please contact Logan Hoover (Logan.Hoover@mail.house.gov) in Congressman Reed’s office
or Michelle Dorothy (Michelle.Dorothy@mail.house.gov) in Congressman Peters’ office.

Sincerely,

Tom Reed (R-NY), Member of Congress

Scott Peters (D-CA), Member of Congress
