Sending Office: Honorable Norma J. Torres
***Closing COB today***
Please join me in sending the below letter, which urges President Trump to suspend Anthony Scaramucci as Communications Director at the White House, pending a Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) review of a financial transaction
in which he is involved.
Back in January, when Scaramucci was first considered for a White House position, he announced that he would sell off his share of Sky Bridge Capital, to
address any potential conflicts of interest. However, since then, news reports have indicated that the two potential buyers of Sky Bridge are HNA Capital, a firm with close
links to the Chinese government, and RON Transatlantic, a firm with ties to Venezuela’s former President, Hugo Chávez. Further
reports indicate that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is reviewing the proposed sale of Sky Bridge Capital, to determine whether it represents a threat to national security.
Until this review is complete, it is clearly inappropriate for Scaramucci to serve as a senior aide to the President. I hope you will join me in expressing concern about this potential conflict of interest, and in calling on the President to take swift action
to rectify this unacceptable situation.
To sign the letter, please contact Clay Boggs in my office, Clay.Boggs@mail.house.gov, by COB today, July 28, 2017.

Dear President Trump,
We write in regard to the recent appointment of Anthony Scaramucci as White House Communications Director. We strongly urge you to suspend Mr. Scaramucci from this senior White House position, pending the completion of a review by the Committee on Foreign
Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to determine whether a proposed financial transaction involving Mr. Scaramucci presents a national security threat.
As you know, Mr. Scaramucci reported that he had sold his stake in Sky Bridge Capital, a fund of hedge funds, on January 12, 2017. The buyer of this stake was a consortium led by HNA Capital and RON Transatlantic. News reports indicate that both of these
firms have ties to governments. HNA Capital is tied to the political leadership of China, and RON Transatlantic is linked to Danilo Diazgranados Manglano, a Venezuelan banker who has been associated with the former President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez.
Further complicating matters, news reports indicate that Mr. Scaramucci recently admitted that the sale of his stake in Sky Bridge was not complete. Hence, it is possible that Mr. Scaramucci may have ongoing business dealings with entities linked to the
Chinese and Venezuelan governments. This is of particular concern because of the extensive and documented participation of the Venezuelan government in international narcotics trafficking, as reflected by the Treasury Department’s February 13, 2017 designation
of Venezuelan Vice-President Tareck El-Aissami as a Specially Designated Narcotics Trafficker.
News reports indicate that CFIUS is currently conducting a review of the proposed sale of Sky Bridge Capital. Until such a review is completed, and unless it determines that the sale would pose no threat to national security, Mr. Scaramucci should not serve
as White House communications director. Serving at the White House is a public trust. Ensuring that White House employees, especially high-level appointees, are free from foreign influence is of utmost importance to our national security.
Thank you for your consideration of this urgent request.
