“Managing sediment as a resource, not a waste product: Regional Sediment Management”
May 31st at 12:30 pm
Congressional Visitors Center – Meeting Room North.
With presentations from: US Army Corps of Engineers HQ & Mobile District and Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources
Moderated by: American Shore & Beach Preservation Association
Congress has supported Regional Sediment Management (RSM) in WRDAs and in the 2016 WIIN Act; learn how these policies are translating into better on the ground management. Hear how the US Army Corps of Engineers and Coastal and Great Lakes states are transitioning
away from viewing material dredged from navigation channels as a waste product that must be disposed of as cheaply as possible, to now see it as a valuable resource, needed for flood risk management projects, ecosystem restoration, sea level rise adaptation
efforts, and even recreation projects.
