We write to encourage you to become a cosponsor of bipartisan legislation (H.R.967) to grant a Congressional Gold Medal to Alice Paul, a prominent women’s rights activist and hero of the suffragist movement.
Few citizens have had a greater impact on American history than Alice Paul and we are tremendously proud of her legacy. Alice Paul’s tireless work and dedication to women’s rights and suffrage directly led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. Because of her efforts, millions of women have exercised the fundamental right to vote.
This bill will finally give Alice Paul the recognition she deserves by honoring her with a Congressional Gold Medal.
Similar legislation, previously introduced by former Rep. Joe Baca, passed the House in the 110th Congress with over 406 cosponsors. Unfortunately, the bill stalled in the Senate and never made it to the President’s desk.
If you would like to cosponsor or have any questions, please contact Jayson Schimmenti at firstname.lastname@example.org in Rep. Macarthur’s office or Liz Amster at email@example.com in Rep. Rice’s office.
