Support Critical Airport Security Programs
Deadline: Tuesday, April 4 @ 12 PM
Dear Colleague:
Please join me in writing to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security in support of funding for critical airport security programs.
With increasing threats on our nation’s airports, it is imperative we provide robust funding for the Law Enforcement Officer Reimbursement and VIPR Team Programs. These initiatives within the Transportation Security Administration play a vital role in
keeping our constituents and our nation’s transportation centers safe.
First, the Law Enforcement Officer Reimbursement program assists airports and municipalities afford the salaries and expenses of local law enforcement officers that secure our airport terminals. Second, VIPR or “Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response”
Teams, consisting of Federal Air Marshals, Behavioral Detection Officers, Transportation Security Specialists, Security Inspectors, Canine teams, and federal, state, and local law enforcement, are specially trained teams deployed to our airports, mass transit
systems, and other transportation centers to detect and address threats and acts of terrorism.
These programs are crucial to combating the growing number of threats on our transportation infrastructure. We therefore ask that the Committee support these programs that have a proven track record of protecting the American public and the millions of
people that travel through our nation’s airports each year.
If you have any questions, or would like to sign on to the letter, please contact Jonathan Steinberg in the office of Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz at jonathan.steinberg@mail.house.gov. Please see request letter below.
Sincerely,
Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Member of Congress

Dear Chairman Carter and Ranking Member Roybal-Allard:
Thank you for your past support of programs to protect our nation’s airports through the Transportation Security Administration. As you begin work on the FY 2018 Homeland Security Appropriations bill, we respectfully request
robust funding for the Law Enforcement Officer Reimbursement and Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response or “VIPR” Team Programs.
With increasing threats on our nation’s airports, it is imperative we provide the necessary funding for the Law Enforcement Officer Reimbursement and VIPR Team programs. These initiatives play a vital role in keeping our constituents
and the millions of people who travel through our nation’s airports safe.
The Law Enforcement Officer Reimbursement program assists airports and municipalities afford the salaries and expenses associated with staffing our airports with a sufficient number of local law enforcement officers. Second,
VIPR or “Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response” Teams, consisting of Federal Air Marshals, Behavioral Detection Officers, Transportation Security Specialists, Security Inspectors, Canine teams, and federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, are
specially trained teams deployed to our airports, mass transit systems, and other transportation centers to detect threats and acts of terrorism.
These programs are crucial to combating the growing number of threats on our transportation infrastructure. We therefore ask the Committee to support these programs and provide them with the necessary funding.
Finally, we recognize the constraints by which the Subcommittee is bound.  As always, we appreciate your consideration of our request and we look forward to working with you as the FY 2018 Homeland Security Appropriations bill
takes shape.
Sincerely,
