Become an Original Co-sponsor to House Resolution Supporting Financial Literacy Month
Please join me in supporting the goals and ideals of Financial Literacy Month (FLM), which takes place in April.
Data show that many people remain unbanked or underbanked and do not feel confident about having enough money for a comfortable retirement. In addition, 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. do not have any savings, and only 20 states require students to take an economics
course in high school. Meanwhile, total household debt stands at a staggering 12.7 trillion dollars.
Financial illiteracy is at the core of many people’s personal financial troubles. Research demonstrates, however, that financial literacy has a causal effect on economic decision making, allowing people to get a better grasp on their expenses and how to
deal with debt.
My resolution supports the goals and ideals of FLM to raise public awareness about the importance of personal financial education in the United States and the serious consequences that may result from a lack of understanding about personal finances. Secondly,
it calls on the Federal Government, States, localities, schools, nonprofit organizations, business, and the people of the United States to support the goals and ideals of FLM with appropriate programs and activities.
To join as an original co-sponsor, please contact Mike Videler in Congresswoman Meeks’ office at
COB on Tuesday, April 4th.
