It’s no secret our budget process is broken. Nearly every year, Congress relies on short-term, stop-gap budget measures to complete our work. As a result, we make important
decisions allocating hardworking Americans’ tax dollars without the proper time and consideration. The longer Congress waits to solve this broken process, the worse our nation’s budget crisis becomes.
That is why I plan to reintroduce the Biennial Budgeting and Enhanced Oversight Act of 2017. Under a biennial budgeting
process, Congress would complete its budget resolution and appropriations bills in the first year, giving federal departments and agencies the time and ability to plan and implement cost-saving measures. In the second year, Congress would conduct
a critical oversight and review process, resulting in a comprehensive review of the federal government’s spending.
A new biennial budgeting process would provide greater budget stability and economic certainty by eliminating our current ad-hoc appropriations process. It is time fix to
this process and put our nation’s fiscal house in order.
This legislation earned broad bipartisan support in the 114th Congress with 237 cosponsors. I hope you will consider supporting the Biennial Budgeting and Enhanced Oversight
Act of 2017 as an original cosponsor. For more information, or to cosponsor, please contact Dominique Yantko (Dominique.Yantko@mail.house.gov) on my staff at 202-225-3021.
