Deadline to Cosponsor: Tonight at 7pm

Dear Colleague:

As we approach LGBT History Month, I invite you to become an original cosponsor of
the Don’t Block LGBT Act, a bill that will ensure LGBTQ resources are not blocked at public schools and libraries. Under current law, public schools and public libraries that receive subsidies for internet service through the e-Rate program
are required to filter online content so that it blocks (1) obscene content, (2) child pornography, and (3) content harmful to minors. Unfortunately, each content filter is determined by school district, library district or individual school and library, which
can block useful LGBT resources that are not sexually explicit in any way.

The Internet is often a resource to the LGBT community—to help cope with discrimination, isolation and stigma, and to seek anti-bullying and health advice. This bill will ensure the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) protects useful LGBT content from
being blocked in our public schools and libraries. The ACLU has previously litigated cases to remove anti-LGBT web filtering.

Please contact Robert Lucas (Robert.Lucas@mail.house.gov; 5-2631) in my office if you would like to cosponsor this bill or have any questions. The deadline to cosponsor is at 7pm tonight, possibly later depending on the bill.

Sincerely,

Mike Honda
Member of Congress
