SUBJECT: Security Reminder during the August Recess
During the August District Work period, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the significance of maintaining an enhanced security awareness of your surroundings. As with any other District Work Period, should you notice anything that seems unusual or out of place, please do not hesitate to contact either the U.S. Capitol Police or the Office of the Sergeant at Arms. That said, as always, in the event of an immediate emergency, dial 911.
As you spend time in your District, I strongly encourage you and your staff to take this time to review your District Office security protocols. The Law Enforcement Coordinator Resource Center on the Sergeant at Arms website on HouseNet – http://saa.house.gov/members/information-for-lecs.shtml – contains the U.S. Capitol Police Guide to Security Awareness. It is especially critical to note that if your home address and phone number are publicly available, you should remain particularly alert regarding your surroundings.
I also highly recommend that your Law Enforcement Coordinator (LEC) renew and validate contacts with the law enforcement resources in your District. These contacts may include federal, state, and local police, and/or your county sheriff. If you are scheduled to attend a public forum such as a town hall meeting, rally, or any other public event, your LEC should contact the proper law enforcement authority to coordinate any necessary police assistance at the event.
Should you have any questions or any other security concerns, please contact the U.S. Capitol Police Threat Assessment Section at 202-224-1495 or the Office of the Sergeant at Arms at 202-225-2456.
