Bill: H.R. 426
Date: 6/30/2016

Dear Colleague:

Like many of you, I was disappointed with the regrettable ruling by the Supreme Court in Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt. Ensuring women’s safety by requiring the same minimum standards as other outpatient surgical centers is not an undue burden, it is commonsense. If the High Court is unwilling to protect women’s health, then it is
incumbent upon Congress to protect the unborn by acting under Section 5 of the 14th Amendment to define the beginning of life.

In the aftermath of this ruling, I wanted to remind you about a bill that I introduced, H.R. 426, the Sanctity of Human Life Act. This commonsense, pro-life, bill simply states that human life begins at fertilization. The bill also makes it abundantly clear that the right to life granted by the Constitution is vested in each human being and that it is our most fundamental right as an individual.

The 14th Amendment to our Constitution ensures that any level of government cannot “deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” I fundamentally believe that this protection must be provided to the unborn.

I urge you to cosponsor the Sanctity of Human Life Act to help protect the most vulnerable in our society.

Should you have any questions or wish to cosponsor H.R. 426, please contact Nicholas Brown in my office at 5-4101 or via email at Thank you for your consideration.
