Become a Cosponsor :Only 5 states have No Travel Related Cases of Zika Virus

Dear Colleague,

I invite you to join me as an original co-sponsor of a resolution that expresses the Sense of Congress that government agencies, here and abroad, take timely and effective action to ensure that the public and all travelers departing for or returning from a destination where mosquito transmission of the Zika Virus is occurring will be informed of symptoms of the Zika Virus.

Additionally, the resolution recognizes the need for heightened public awareness of measures that should be taken to protect against mosquito bites, and to inform women who are pregnant or may become pregnant to seek the advice of their physician prior to travel.

The Zika Virus potentially threatens the public health and safety of at least 60 million persons living in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, its Caribbean territories, and many of our neighbor countries in the Western Hemisphere. The toll
of mosquito contracted Zika virus is being felt in Puerto Rico, and the importance of public education is proving to be critical in the fight against the spread of the disease.

Many individuals that carry the virus have brought it to the U.S. and U.S. territories after visiting affected countries. As a result, this resolution also urges countries, including Brazil, to take appropriate protective measures and urge travelers
to take the necessary precautions to reduce the chances of contracting the Zika Virus.

I invite you to join me as an original co-sponsor of this important resolution to ensures appropriate, timely, and effective action is taken to inform the public about the Zika Virus. For more information, or to sign on as a co-sponsor please do
so by 5pm Thursday, June 23, 2016 by contacting Lillie Coney at or by telephone at (202) 225-3816.

Thank you for your consideration.

Very truly yours,

Sheila Jackson Lee
