Help DOE address the needs of a changing power grid

Current cosponsors: Rep. Chaka Fattah, Rep. Raul Grijalva, Rep. Mike Honda, Rep. Marcy Kaptur, and Rep. Mark Takai.

Dear Colleague:

Battery energy storage technology has the potential to change the way we use renewable energy. Storage projects across the country are already underway from Hawaii to New York and the Advancing Grid Storage Act would help to boost those efforts.

This bill would reduce energy waste, improve grid resiliency, increase industrial competitiveness, and promote local economic development by helping public and private entities to implement energy systems that recover and use local renewable energy resources.

The Advancing Grid Storage Act establishes within the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability at the Department of Energy, a program supporting research for energy storage programs as well as an energy storage demonstration and deployment loan program. Lastly, it establishes a technical assistance grant program at the Department of Energy to provide technical assistance directly to eligible entities to identify, evaluate, plan and design energy storage systems.

This legislation creates the programs necessary to promote battery storage technology and innovation. Join me in supporting  and investing in the proven potential of battery storage. For more information or to cosponsor this legislation, please contact Claire Viall at (5-2305) or by email at
