Over the next two weeks, UN member nations are meeting in Paris to negotiate a new international agreement on climate change at the twenty-first session of the Conference of Parties (COP21) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
According to the U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change, President Obama intends to commit the U.S. to giving tens of billions of dollars per year to finance green energy projects in developing countries and to reduce emissions by 26 to 28% below 2005 levels by 2025.
In spite of this massive commitment, the Obama administration has indicated that the president does not intend to submit the Paris agreement to the Senate for its advice and consent as an Article II treaty.
Therefore, we invite you to become a cosponsor of a resolution stating that the Obama administration or any future administration must submit the Paris agreement to the Senate as a treaty for its advice and consent, otherwise, Congress will use the power of the purse to block funding to carry out this UN climate change agenda.
For more information or to become a cosponsor please contact Isaac Fong in Representative Kelly’s office at Isaac.Fong@mail.house.gov.
