Recently, the FDA issued a new food safety standard that could severely impact artisan cheese producers across the country and effectively ban many age-old recipes for cheeses. Like FDA’s previous attempt to crack down on cheeses aged on wood boards, this standard is misguided and threatens to halt the progress of a growing industry.

The LGBT senior population is growing, and will roughly double to 6 million Americans by 2030. Unfortunately, decades of marginalization and legal and institutional barriers have left LGBT seniors with fewer sources of support, higher poverty rates, social isolation, and inadequate access to health care. It is for this reason that the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCAO) identified LGBT issues as a key priority for national aging care programs and the Older Americans Act reauthorization.
