We invite you to attend a briefing on industrial hemp and CBD on Monday, October 5th, at 3:00 PM in 2168 Rayburn House Office Building. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.
Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is a valuable, non-psychoactive agricultural crop that can be used in many different products including foods, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and auto parts. Unfortunately, due to an erroneous determination by the Drug Enforcement Administration that hemp is marijuana, it is listed as a Schedule I controlled substance along with heroin and LSD. CBD is an extract of the hemp plant, which has shown promise in its treatment of rare forms of epilepsy.
A panel of experts will discuss efforts in Congress to legalize industrial hemp, as well as the status of CBD in federal legislation. This panel will feature:
- James Comer, Commissioner, Kentucky Department of Agriculture
- Jonathan Miller, Former Kentucky State Treasurer, Attorney-at-law, Frost Brown Todd LLC
- Experts from the hemp industry
