Dear Colleague,
As Co-Chairs of the Friends of New Zealand Caucus (FONZ), we are writing to share an exciting opportunity for Members of the FONZ Caucus to host an intern from New Zealand in your office later this year for two months, beginning November 16, 2015 to January 15, 2016.
In November, four young New Zealanders will travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in the fourth year of the Congressional Internship Program established by the New Zealand Embassy in Washington, D.C. and the US – NZ Council. The program was established following the devastating 2011 Canterbury earthquake for students at Canterbury University, and now includes students at Victoria University of Wellington.
This program is financially supported by the universities as well as Air New Zealand and the NZ – US Council. Over the past three winters, interns have had the opportunity to work for a range of bipartisan and bicameral Members of Congress. The feedback from those offices and the interns has been mutually and uniformly positive.
This year’s interns are an impressive group of young Kiwis in their final year of studying international relations or law. As in the past, this program intends to foster the interns understanding of the US Congress and the US government so that they may become strong advocates for the US-NZ relationship.
We welcome your interest and support to host one of these interns in your office. As noted above, all the financial and logistical requirements for the interns will be covered. If you are interested in hosting an intern or would like more information, please contact Terra Sabag with Congressman Rick Larsen’s office at or at 5-2605 or Sahra Park-Su with Congressman Kevin Brady’s office at or 5-4901. Thank you for your continued support as Members of the FONZ Caucus.
