Bill: H.R. 5202
Support information privacy: Cosponsor H.R. 5202, the “Personal Information Notification Act”.
It is increasingly apparent that when personal information is obtained through an agency by an entity outside of the Government without the knowledge of the individual it pertains to, it may constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.
Such individuals should be notified that the information was accessed in order to be afforded the opportunity to respond.
This bill will require an agency to send a written notification to any individual whose personal information is accessed by a private entity. The notification will include the information accessed and the name of the entity that accessed the information, and will be sent no later than 30 calendar days after the information was accessed.
This bill will also permit OMB to obtain the information necessary for contacting an individual from sources including a driver’s license and voter information, but not from the IRS or the NSA.
We ask for your support and co-sponsorship of H.R. 5202. If you have any questions please contact Zachary Leshin at 5-1555 or at Zachary.Leshin@mail.house.gov.
