Diminishing Arctic sea ice has led to increased human activities in the Arctic, including the opportunity for increased trans-Arctic shipping and new access to oil and gas resources. However, heightened interest also comes with increasing territorial claims from Arctic states, sovereignty and security issues, as well as a need for assessing and improving Arctic infrastructure.
