Support the Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Program

*** This is a Programmatic Request***

Deadline: Tuesday April 1st COB

Current Signers: Dingell, Peters, Yarmuth

Dear Colleague:

Please join me in encouraging support for strong funding for the Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Program in the FY15 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations bill.

The Vehicle Technologies Program supports research and development activities which will enable America to use less petroleum by improving vehicle efficiency. The transportation sector accounts roughly a quarter of United States primary energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions and is 95% dependent on petroleum. Federal support of research and development in this industry will jump start research and development of advanced vehicle technologies here in the United States.

This program also supports the 21st Century Truck partnership and the SuperTruck initiative which aim to develop technologies to improve the fuel efficiency of the heavy-duty vehicles. Improving the fuel efficiency of the work truck fleet will save businesses and consumers money while reducing dependence on foreign oil and protecting the environment.

Please join me in encouraging the Appropriations Committee to provide strong funding for the Vehicle Technologies Program.

Sincerely,

Gary C. Peters
