Dear Administrators McCarthy and Strickland:
The United States trucking industry plays an imperative role in the movement of diverse products and growing our nation’s economy.  Furthermore, the U.S. truck manufacturing and operating sectors provide millions of American jobs.
Due to this important role, we ask for careful and thoughtful consideration of these positive economic impacts when drafting the proposed second phase of fuel economy and greenhouse gas (GHG) standards for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.  Given that the
model year 2014-2018 standards are currently being phased in, we believe it is necessary for your agencies to evaluate how these standards have affected the trucking industry and consumers when proceeding on new standards.
Additionally, we ask that these new standards, or any new standards, be written in a manner that can be achieved using economically and commercially viable technology and is based on available and sound science.
Finally, we ask that you fully engage in stakeholder input across the truck manufacturing and operating industries, small and large, as well as other transportation sectors affected by the second phase standards.  Thank you for your time and we look forward
to your response.
