Dear Colleague:
I write to ask for your co-sponsorship of a resolution honoring January as National Mentoring Month.  Established in 2002, National Mentoring Month pays tribute to the men and women who enrich the lives of our young people and encourages more Americans to
mentor young adults in their communities.
In my career as an educator, school principal, and school board member, I have seen firsthand what works in children’s lives. In situations in which a young person is missing a caring, consistent presence, there is one simple intervention that can make all
the difference: A good mentor. Mentoring is a powerful and cost effective way to help our nation’s youth. Research has proven that young people who are matched with a mentor through a quality mentoring program make positive choices, discover personal strength,
and achieve their potential both inside and outside of the classroom.
Please join me in recognizing January as National Mentoring Month and its efforts to increase the availability of mentoring programs across the country.  To co-sponsor the resolution or if you have any questions, please contact Corey Solow in my office at or 202.225.4506.
