Comprehensive Fossil Fuel Subsidy Repeal To Save Taxpayers Over $110 Billion
At a time when we have a massive debt, we cannot afford to continue to give away taxpayer money to the established, highly profitable fossil fuel industry. The five largest oil companies in the United States earned roughly $1 trillion in profits over the past decade. Meanwhile, from 2002 to 2008, the U.S. Government gave the fossil fuel industry over $72 billion in subsidies.
The End Polluter Welfare Act would eliminate all oil, coal, and natural gas production subsidies. The measure would do away with over $110 billion in planned federal tax breaks, financial assistance, royalty relief, direct federal research and development, and many loopholes that benefit the fossil fuel industry.
