Help fund the National Anthem’s Bi-Centennial!

Dear Colleague,
Co-sponsor H.R. 2097, the Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coin Act. This bi-partisan
legislation will honor the Star-Spangled Banner, Fort McHenry and the War of 1812 by creating a
commemorative U.S. Mint coin recognizing the 200th anniversary of the writing of the Star-Spangled
After a 25-hour British bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812, Francis Scott Key saw
an enormous American flag proudly flying over the fort that was defending the City of Baltimore. Key
was inspired to write the Star-Spangled Banner that eventually became America’s national anthem.
The Star-Spangled Banner commemorative coin will honor the symbol of our nation and our national
The coin will be minted in 2012 in coordination with the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812. A
portion of the proceeds will go to the Star-Spangled Banner and War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission
to plan, coordinate and facilitate programs and other efforts to commemorate the historic events
associated with the War of 1812.
